My pre-review thoughts on Foreo’s Luna 2. Hint: They’re happy thoughts .
If you know me at all, you’ll know that I’m skincare obsessed. It could be a throwback from my days as a features writer at Glamour, but I think it’s more likely the result of having ‘problem’ skin, and trying to get a testy combo of eczema, acne and reactive skin under control.
Since I’ve turned to everything from homeopathy to antibiotics to attend to my smorgasbord of skincare needs, I’m pretty invested in products that actually work. Which is why I was super excited when the amazing team at Foreo sent me the new Luna 2 to try out.
The product comes in four different types and since my skin is obviously unsure of what it is on a day-to-day basis, Foreo sent me the blue device for combination skin. (How pretty is the device?).
Because of A. Covid, B. lockdown and C. being mom to an extremely busy five-year-old, I haven’t been as ‘good’ with the device as I was hoping to be. But it’s been a week of solid use and I can already say this: my skin is less clogged up, my mask-and-hormone-induced acne is looking calmer, and the clear zones of my skin (forehead and cheeks) look refined AF.
I tend to be a rub-and-scrub kinda gal, but the Luna 2 has helped me slow down with my skin - and it shows. My face is less red and inflamed than usual, and I’ve noticed that my normal acne zones (the guilty culprits being the areas around my chin and mouth) look a lot less black-head-y, and clearer, if you will. My moisturiser (Cetaphil oil control with SPF 30) soaks into my skin quicker, and my face looks more even overall. Bear in mind that I’ve only been using the Luna 2 consistently for seven or so days, and my skin is already responding well. And for those with sensitive, combination and reactive skin, this usually bodes well for the efficacy of a product. The device also appeals to the Goldie Hawn in me, since it has an additional anti-ageing massage mode. While I’ve been a little lax on this front, I’m super excited to see if I can stave off more laugh and frown lines this way.
While I worry the device might be out pricing a large portion of the market in South Africa, it’s still more affordable than other similar washing devices, and with its multi-function offerings (anti-ageing and cleansing) and multiple settings, it’s definitely value for money - if you have the money to buy it.
I’ll be back with more thoughts - and selfies - early next week.
